<p>The 115th AS is the flying component of the 146th TAW and has operated the C-130E since 1975. The unit was activated in June 1924 and stationed in California throughout World War II until reorganized in October 1946 at Van Nuys Airport as the 115th Bombardment Squadron with the A-26. The squadron moved to Lockheed Air Terminal, Burbank and saw active duty between April 1951 and December 1952. It relocated to Van Nuys as the 115th Fighter-Bomber Squadron equipped with the F-51H, before converting to F-86As in January 1955 and becoming a Tactical Fighter Squadron. In January 1960 the C-97A/C were assigned to the 115th Air Transport Squadron, with mobilization between October 1961 and August 1962 during the Berlin crisis. The C-97G was subsequently operated. The unit became the 115th TAS in April 1970 when the C-130A was assigned. The unit operated a mix of C-130A and B models until 1975, when the C-130E was received. The 146th TAG was upgraded to Wing standard in February 1975. The unit moved to Channel Islands ANGB (located in a corner of NAS Point Mugu) at the end of 1989.
